::: Mission
Organized in 2006, Habitat for Humanity of Mariposa County is an independently operated affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are a non-profit, Christian, housing ministry dedicated to making shelter a matter of conscience. Building relationships and community is as important to us as building homes. We invite people of all faiths and walks of life together in partnership to lend a hand to those in need of better and affordable housing.
The essential building blocks of the Habitat program are volunteer labor and donated materials, which are utilized in the building of simple, decent homes. Habitat homes are sold to partner families on a no-profit basis, with 0% interest mortgages. HFH of Mariposa Co. generally holds the mortgage for 20 to 30 years. Payments are recycled to finance more housing through our Revolving Fund for Humanity.
We use three basic criteria in our family selection process: need for adequate shelter, ability to pay and willingness to partner with Habitat. With these in mind, we conduct an extensive screening process of applicant families, including housing, employment, credit and personal reference checks, followed by in-home family interviews. Families must be willing to contribute 350 hours of sweat equity building their homes as well as homes of other Habitat families.
"Partnership" is the word most commonly associated with Habitat for Humanity. We join those who require assistance with others who are willing to provide a hand up – not a handout – to a better life. We truly believe there is an opportunity for all to find fulfillment within Habitat as we serve one another.

::: The Committees and Their Functions
#1 Construction Committee
The construction committee is responsible for the planning and organization of our building projects. Surveyors, architects, building inspectors, carpenters, concrete workers, plumbers, electricians, utility people, building supply people, painters, and people willing to learn on-the-job are very welcome. If interested in helping to build, just contact the construction committee and they will let you know when they can use your help.
#2 Events & Fundraising Committee
This committee organizes events and fundraisers.
#3 Grants & Large Donor Committee
This committee pursues grants and large corporate and private donations.
#4 Public Relations and Media Committee
This committee
manages the website, publishes the newsletter, and designs graphics.
#5 Site Selection Committee
This committee is made up of people who know the area and will seek available sites for Habitat homes. They may work with local government officials to acquire suitable land for building and to establish water and sewer hookups. This is an important committee, as finding affordable building lots is a challenge and is a necessary first step for any Habitat project.
#6 Family Selection Committee
The Family Selection Committee works to carry out the board's vision by defining the population in need of decent, affordable housing within our community. The Selection Committee implements the application processes and policies. It conducts outreach, interviews applicants and evaluates applications in compliance with Habitat for Humanity standards and goals.
#7 Family Support Committee
Family support is an on-going mentoring process utilizing trained volunteers who work in partnership with families. This committee empowers families through education and mentoring during all stages of housing development and early home ownership.
#8 Church Relations Committee
Churches are Habitat's biggest source of financial and volunteer support. As Christians, we reflect Christ's love in our own lives by loving and caring for one another. Habitat provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action, bringing diverse groups together to make better communities a reality for all people. It's all about serving God by serving others..
"Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homeless – cheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it…"
I Peter 4:10 (The Message)

Here are some pics from the Taco Feed & Silent Auction. Thanks for all who helped...although a lot of work I think everyone had a good time and boy did we manage to keep a full house!
